There is always a low & high spectrum in any country. The important thing is the income gap. Ill use an easier example. You cannot have 100% of a class be 1st class hrs.
Low salary doesnt mean cheap…then what is yer definition of cheap labour.
There is always a salary gap but not necessary a low and high spectrum of society, for society is not divided according to your salary. and those will high income, whether by salary or inheritance, are by no means 1st class!!! you drive BM I drive toyota and sometimes take MRT, you think you are 1st class?
A diamond jewelry with the original price of $5000, and you get it for $2000, that is cheap. A costume jewelry by a designer costing $200 is a low cost jewelry, but if they want to sell you for $250, then it is expensive.
In Thailand, where you pay 300 babt or S$15 per day for a construction worker, is it cheap or expensive? Low salary doesn't mean cheap!! You father told you not to be obssessed with $, but he should teach you the value of money.
You also should wonder why in Thailand 300 babt a day people can raise a family.
Now Holden is leaving oz, a name that is iconic to oz, a company that is employing over tens of thousands of workers. to the workers now the difference is between 1st class citizens in developed country or no job as low class citizens in developed country.
Leave Singapore alone.
no argument with you on your latest post. As long as it is not something Singapore should do because developed countries like oz are doing it, I am fine. The situatiosn in different countries are different so we don't have to follow any example if we don't think it is relevant to us.
There have been many discussions about minimum wages and I don't intend to do it again. income gap widening is happening everywhere, and in Singapore, we are not concerned about how much the richer ones made, the concern is whether we can make a living as long as we work.
The measures we take is not to protect citizens with handouts, but to help them to be competitive. Minimum wages mean nothing if it cannot cope with high costs of living. How to keep the cost of living down? increase wages is definitely not the way.
It all depends on your definitions. Income gaps are widened in practically every country involved in global economy, we don't see any social unrest that is directly related to income gaps. Look at the countries with social unrest in recent history, unrest resulted from corruption of officials, dictatorship, intolerance due to religious belief. Unless the poor really have no chance of a decent living, then they also don't care how high your income is, unrest, especially against the so called higher spectrum of the society.
What is overpopulation? when there isn't enough housing, food supplies, hospitals and infra structures to cater for the population, even 2 million is overpopulated. If there are enough space created for 5 million, there is no overpopulation. Why should over population cause tension among races? some specific race not treated equally, left behind in the development?
Hatred of FT, hmmm...very popular subject, what is Foreign Talent to you? the indian construction workers, the kopi xiao mei from PRC, the pinoy salesgirls, or the australia accountant, american executives, the british engineers?
In the history of singapore, after independence, we experienced the british withdrawal in the 70s, we survived the asian financial crisis, we went through the impact of the us subprime crisis.... LHL said we are still a sampan, the sea is still choppy, tell us about the rocking boat. but we will live on, happily,兵将挡,水土掩。
we are cool.
wot.
How is the job market now ?
Fresh graduates can find 3k jods or not?
